Complete Communities University: This series of 8 workshops and a group service project focuses on civic engagement techniques and community leadership to strengthen the existing skills of community leaders as they work to implement goals, actions and project aspirations within their communities. Houston Financial Empowerment Centers: The Houston Financial Empowerment Centers (HFECs) provide one-to-one, professional financial counseling to Houstonians at no cost to residents. Learn more here.

Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) Workshops: The Planning Department is putting on a series of workshops to inform residents about ADUs. ADUs, also referred to as garage apartments, mother-in-law cottages and granny flats, are above the garage or detached, free-standing units on single-family lots that provide another housing choice for Houstonians and can be great solutions for allowing people to age in place or provide housing for caregivers, young couples and empty nesters. Vision Zero: Vision Zero brings together traffic crash data and community feedback about dangerous locations to actions that improve street safety. Learn more here

Livable Places: The Livable Places initiative focuses on updating portions of Houston’s development codes to enhance community walkability and encourage the development and preservation of affordable, quality housing. Learn more here

Acres HomeHCCI_Acres Home_color
The Acres Home Action Plan has 33 goals and 92 projects, organized into nine focus areas. The highest priority focus areas, as identified by community stakeholders, are economy and jobs, housing, neighborhood character, and infrastructure. Additional focus areas include civic engagement, education, health, parks and community amenities, and safety.

Bethune Empowerment Center (BEC):
 
The BEC is a centralized workforce and economic development hub in the Acres Home community at the repurposed Bethune Academy. A coalition of partners will co-locate in the BEC to provide a collective impact on job training, apprenticeships, skill-building services, small business resources, co-working spaces, and business incubators.

Be Well™ Acres Homes: This initiative from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center partners with over 30 organizations to promote physical activity, healthy eating, and other behaviors to directly improve Acres Home residents’ health. Learn more here.

Getting Ahead Program: Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM) designed the Getting Ahead Program to assist Acres Home residents with learning how to build resources that create the sustainability needed for a financially strong and healthy household. Learn more here.

The Alief-Westwood Action Plan has 25 goals and 66 projects, organized into nine focus areas, and a
special introductory section focused on COVID-19. The highest priority focus areas, as identified by
community stakeholders, are economy and jobs, health, mobility and infrastructure, neighborhood
character, and education. Additional focus areas include community leadership and advocacy, housing, parks and community amenities, and safety.


Bissonnet Social Services Hub:
 A hub for program and support services in the Alief-Westwood neighborhood: Business Attraction (business innovation hubs, small business loans), Workforce Development (job training and education support resources, skill building programs), Small Business Development (co-working spaces), and Health Care Access (social services centers).

The Fort Bend Houston Action Plan has 27 goals and 60 projects, organized into eight focus areas, and a special introductory section focused on COVID-19. The highest priority focus areas as identified by community stakeholders are economy and jobs, community leadership and advocacy, education, and neighborhood character and housing. Additional focus areas include environment and health, mobility and infrastructure, parks and community amenities, and safety.

Edison Arts Center (EAC):
 A mixed-use Cultural and Town Center District in the Fort Bend Houston community. The EAC will provide the following programs and services: Affordable Housing, Early Education Centers, Healthcare Clinics, Outdoor Cultural Arts and Park Spaces, and Business Development Workspaces.

HarvesTrolley Mobile Grocery: The HarvesTrolly mobile grocery store is now available in Fort Bend Houston. This store on wheels brings fresh food and household essentials directly to you and your neighbors. Learn more here.

The highest priority focus areas in Gulfton are safety, parks, and housing. Hillcroft Safety Improvement Project:
This project to redesign Hillcroft Ave. aims to improve pedestrian safety through sidewalk improvements and a bikeway installation along High Star Dr. Learn more here.

Lily Pad - Community Resilience Hub
: This project aims to build a Lily Pad (community resilience hub) in Kashmere Gardens to serve as a physical space for residents to obtain necessary services like food assistance, community education and Wi-Fi, and serve as a resource connecter during emergencies like extreme heat, intense flooding, and power outages. Complete this survey to help identify high-priority services for the Kashmere Gardens Lily Pad.

Cavalcade-Homestead Healthy Connection Corridor:
This new bikeway project will improve Cavalcade Street and Homestead Road in Kashmere Gardens to improve street safety and connect people to work, school, parks, and other destinations in the community. Learn more here.

Prairie View A&M University Cooperative Extension Program: A well-organized network of professional educators and more than 4,000 trained volunteers delivering practical research-based knowledge to farmers, families, aspiring entrepreneurs, and youth in 35 Texas counties. The program aims to assist individuals and families from communities with limited resources through free community workshops on homebuyer education and financial literacy. Learn more here.

The Near Northside Action Plan identifies 27 goals and 72 projects, organized into nine focus areas, to work towards a Complete Community. The highest priority focus areas in the Near Northside are:
safety; infrastructure; parks; economic development; and, housing. Additional focus areas include:
education; health; neighborhood character; and, civic engagement.

Skills Training & Continuing Education:
The Near Northside Complete Communities Action Plan calls for “Expanding community job training, career development, and placement programs to prepare residents for, and employ them in, growing sectors of the economy.” Complete this survey to help identify skill training and continuing education needs for Near Northside residents.

SunnysideHCCI_Sunnyside_color
The Sunnyside Action Plan has 28 goals and 78 projects, organized into nine focus areas, and a
special introductory section focused on COVID-19. The highest priority focus areas as identified by
community stakeholders are economy and jobs, education, environment, housing, safety, mobility and infrastructure, community leadership and advocacy, and neighborhood character. Additional focus areas include health and social services and parks and community amenities.


Sunnyside Solar Farm: 
The largest urban solar project in the U.S. will reside in the Sunnyside community. It will bring an estimated $70 million private investment for the Sunnyside community and generate enough clean energy to power 5,000 homes and off-set 120 million pounds of carbon per year while also creating jobs and training opportunities in one of the fastest growing job markets today.

Sunnyside Task Force: Sunnyside HTX is looking for Sunnyside residents and supporters with common goals and diverse backgrounds to develop ideas, organize efforts, and solve problems within the Sunnyside community. Learn more here.

Third WardHCCI_Third Ward_color
The Third Ward Action Plan identifies 27 goals and 77 projects, organized into nine focus areas, to work towards a Complete Community. The highest priority focus areas identified by Third Ward stakeholders are housing, education, and expanded economic opportunities. Additional focus areas include health, safety, neighborhood character, civic engagement, and mobility and infrastructure.

Calhoun-Griggs-MLK Healthy Connections Corridor:
This project is proposed as an approximately 7-mile street redesign on three street segments on Calhoun Rd, Griggs Rd, and Martin Luther King Blvd. to improve street safety and connect people to work, school, parks, and other destinations in the community. Learn more here.

Third Ward Bikeways - Blodgett and Cleburne: This project to add bike lanes on Cleburne and Blodgett streets will provide additional multi-modal options for the residents in the Third Ward area to bike safely within the community. Learn more here.
